Before I continue any further and offend the gay community, let me just say that I am not “homophobic”. Now that I have set the record straight, I can speak what’s on my mind.

I am an avid NPR listener. I was listening to a segment on Paris Barclay and heard this:

………for kids; he and his husband have adopted two children from the Los Angeles foster care system”

I usually wander in my own thoughts with NPR in the background. When I heard the above, it caught my attention. “His husband”??? And then it hit me that they were talking about a very accomplished gay person, who by all his gay-rights, had married his “true love” and then adopted two children.

I come from a fairly orthodox and conservative Indian family, where having a girlfriend would have been considered very taboo. I can’t imagine (even if I try really really hard) as to what the reaction would be if I brought home and introduced them to my “boyfriend”.

I will end by saying I am not “homophobic”, just completely new to this concept/system/culture (or whatever else you might want to call it).
